One of the first steps to better living is better health. Working in your field, learning new skills, going to school, developing your community is all much easier when you enjoy good health. ADRA helps people have better health in a variety of ways. Water systems and toilets cut down on the spread of disease and dramatically improve a community’s ability to keep the village and homes clean. Education on how to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, mosquito nets to prevent malaria, and re-hydration methods for diarrhea all save lives.

Special emphasis is given to the most vulnerable in the village. Of all those living in remote villages, expectant mothers, new mothers and children under the age of 5 are at the greatest risk.

Every year six million children of our world die needlessly from preventable diseases.  Working together with the Canadian Network for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, the programs of ADRA Canada are designed to help every child in the village to not only survive, but thrive!

In many communities of our world, just getting pregnant can be a potential death sentence! ADRA is helping improve a woman’s chances by training Traditional Birth Attendants and Midwives with better, more hygienic procedures. Birthing clinics provide a safe clean place to welcome baby into the world. Training in good nutrition for mother and baby helps prevent stunting and malnutrition. Regular growth monitoring helps alert mothers to potential problems.
