The scenic African country of Rwanda will be forever stained with the tragic genocide that took place within its borders in 1994. An estimated one million people lost their lives before order was restored. Today, Rwanda is considered stable, with many institutions in place to safeguard it against the tragedies of the past.
Since 1995 ADRA Canada has been active in Rwanda with programs that have built schools, clinics, and helped returning refugees re-settle. Teacher training programs and curricula development have played a important role in rebuilding a strong educational institution in the country. Adult education and skills training programs have helped parents be better providers for their children. Community development programs have brought water, irrigation, land reclamation, and more efficient food production systems.
Our most recent programs continue to bring better health and food security to the people of Rwanda.
