Cholera causes severe watery diarrhea which can lead to dehydration and even death. It is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with the bacterium Vibro cholerae. The bacterium may be present in feces days after infection and can thus be re-introduced into the environment, potentially infecting other people.

Zambia’s ongoing cholera outbreak has closed many schools, keeping children and adults from their education.

ADRA is working to prevent cholera in the Eastern Province of Zambia by providing clean water for schools and their surrounding communities, distributing hygiene kits, and conducting hygiene education in both schools and homes.

ADRA believes that everyone has the right to clean water, dignified sanitation options, and information on healthy hygiene practices. Your support is benefiting the lives of almost 10,000 people in Zambia.
